Installation
Tracing Presence(s) by Emeka Okereke and David Esser
2023
In collaboration with the artist Emeka Okereke for the Prussian Cultural Collection at Charlottenburg Palace, we were able to utilize two statues from the collection's archives to reflect on the potentials of postcolonial thinking and global action. The figures were photographed in macro to create a landscape and potential from them. What are the responsibilities of postcolonial engagement, and who bears them? Can the exploration of colonialism be further advanced through auditory perspectives? In this installation, I used recordings of wind and rain to create a new and different world at the moment of contemplation. Viewers perceive the figure as a landscape. For me, rain is a significant modulator of landscape development and an essential factor for the continuity of geopolitical and societal life.
